Underwater Pool - Spa Repair Without Draining the Water from the Pool

Yes you can paint underwater! There are special two part epoxies that can be brushed/rolled on underwater. Note that his is not the case with all epoxies.

Underwater painting is a bit of work so generally it is limited to small repairs or touch ups where the epoxy can be brushed, rolled or rubbed/smeared over small leaks, rust stains or chips in the pooling coating.

An inexpensive fix like a touch up with underwater epoxy doesn't go over well with swimming pool service contractor and others in the pool industry. It is too cheap a fix and in direct conflict with their profit motives (see the customer letter below in the red text).

The special underwater epoxy is called Water Gard 300 and comes in white or light blue in 1.5 quart, 3 quart or 3 gallon kits. Commercial uses include water treatment plants, manholes, tanks, pits and sumps (usually NOT applied underwater but rather on dry surfaces).

The epoxy is mixed in any amount using two parts of Part A and 1 part of PART B. The result is a creamy gel that is then applied underwater to the chip or crack with a brush or dabbed on with a gloved mitten etc.  Dries overnight and can be re-applied at any time if more is needed to cover the problem.

Chips in pools can be fixed inexpensively, and easily, with underwater epoxies.

8/14 -- My name is T..R... and I live in Las Vegas, Nev. I have a beautiful custom pool and I noticed a small area on the side wall of my pool. I took a wire brush and tried to remove the dark colored spot. Unfortunately I rubbed too hard and made it worse, much worse.

I contacted 10 different pool companies and each of them informed me that I would need to drain the pool to repair the spot that was getting larger by the day. Draining a pool with 28,000 gallons during the summer is bad enough, but fixing the plaster that had been rubbed down to the Gunnite is very expensive. I needed a quick fix and there did not seem to be one! Well, I was wrong.

I discovered a man named Paul Oman at epoxyproducts.com on the internet when I searched for (plaster underwater repair) and to my amazement he told me about an epoxy that you mix in a ratio of 2 to 1 (Water Gard 300 - available in white or light blue).

It is human nature to be skeptical. Wow, this product is incredible! It repaired the spot perfectly for less than $100 and not the thousands that I would certainly have had to spend to repair the side of my pool.

Once last thing, Paul sent me the white at my request. I mixed a light blue paint from a hobby store and my pool looks great. This product is perfect and it is for real. Do yourself a favor and don’t listen to the pool guys, they want your business and that adds up to big bucks!

Thanks again Paul for helping me solve this problem. --- T..R..

Hi, I train spray painters in Queensland Australia the technical aspects of Polyurethane paint. However some people just can’t get the difference of the two major types. Polyester vs Acrylic. I would like to use your excellent discussion paper in my training as an unbiased view and give credit to author Paul Oman and your company. http://www.epoxyproducts.com/lpu.html
